Dating back over two millennia, Yoga may hold the key to being healthy & happy in these stressful times. In addition, its not unusual for devotees to report increased vitality and concentration, together with firmer, suppler muscles and a reduced dependency on living in the past or for some, in the future.

Yoga is not a religion, but a meditative exercise, aspects of which are however included in many beliefs systems to include amongst others Taoism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity.

Meditative exercise would also include Tai chi, originally one of the most deadly forms of internal martial arts, but these days practiced in the West primarily for its other health benefits so much so that it is even said to of great benefit to those suffering from some forms of Arthritis.

If the primary achievement in Yoga is to achieve “Samadhi” (union with divine consciousness), the best known paths are probably Hatha (union via bodily control) and Raja (union via mental control). As to which is best for you, well that’s a personal choice.

Whichever route you decide upon, it is likely to result in a thoroughly enjoyable experience which has the potential to provide immeasurable long term health benefits, but as always with these things get yourself checked out by your GP beforehand.

Go on enjoy yourself!
